Extra Soft Toothbrushes
Brushing Teeth – Learning the Basics
As children we are taught that brushing your teeth everyday is important to keep away germs as well as to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to have a basic refresher course on oral hygiene. A few minutes of reading could save you from having to deal with gum disease. However, you should know that gum disease is something that perhaps as many as eighty percent of people face right now.
The basic motions of brushing your teeth are simple but there are a few key steps that need to be taken. The most important thing to remember is to be gentle. Many people brush far too hard. This can lead to gum recession.
You should get specific directions from your hygienist. But, it is important to understand that gentle is the key. Some suggest not to actually ‘brush’ but rather to ‘vibrate’ the tooth brush. The main purpose is to break up dental plaque. The plaque is weak, and you can easily disrupt it. Therefore, you do not need to be rough when brushing.
The back molars are of utmost importance as well. This is where a lot of food particles and bacteria like to remain hidden.
Use an extra Soft Toothbrush if your gums are sensitive and don’t apply too much pressure. Bleeding is a symptom of gum disease.
Don’t forget to brush your tongue as well. Most of the bacteria that are responsible for bad breath are located on the tongue. Brush the roof of your mouth and under your tongue as well to avoid missing any areas.
The acid in food causes enamel on the teeth to be damaged more easily. This could actually mean that if you brush directly after eating you are harming your teeth more than helping them! Use a pH balanced mouthwash first to help prevent this from happening.
